Interview with Datuk Leong Yeng Kit, KTJ Alumni (1991-1992)

We had the pleasure of speaking with Datuk Leong Yeng Kit, an inaugural member of the KTJ Sixth Form. He reflects on his time at KTJ and shares insights into his educational and professional journey.

Which year did you join KTJ, and when did you graduate from KTJ?
I joined KTJ in 1991-1992, in the first batch of Sixth Form A-Levels.

Which house were you in?
In 1991, the first year, there were no houses. The former square layout Arts Centre was our housing accommodation, half for the girls and half for the boys. In 1992, the new houses were constructed, and I was placed in Imran.

What do you remember most about KTJ?
I remember quite a fair bit: Lawrence Rimmer and Stuart Morris, the college friends I still have today, boarding life, lots of sports, and a lack of food—teenagers were and always are having a lack of food!

Tell us about your educational journey after KTJ.
I went to the University of Buckingham in England to pursue my law career.

If you had to go back and relive your KTJ experience all over again, what would you change and why?
33 years ago. What would I have changed? Nothing. Boarding school was a luxury back then.

What do you do now?
I am a lawyer and businessman in Kuala Lumpur.

What did you learn that is most applicable to your current position?
Learn how to network, find and identify opportunities & niches, and diversify investments.

Who should we feature next in our KTJ Community?
There are so many inspiring KTJ alumni, but I would recommend featuring someone from the earlier batches of Sixth Form who helped lay the foundation for what KTJ has become today.
______

Yeng Kit’s reflections on his KTJ experience remind us of the lasting impact of boarding school life and the lifelong friendships formed at KTJ. His journey from KTJ to becoming a lawyer and businessman in Kuala Lumpur exemplifies the far-reaching influence of the school’s education on its alumni.

Stay tuned for more alumni interviews as we continue to celebrate the stories of our KTJ Community.
